ENG - The purpose of the project is to make sense of a great void located in the proximity of the mouth of the Arno River, 15 km from the medieval centre of Pisa. The site is used as an informal car park especially during summer time. But the point is that an area with such a spatial potential should be used more like a priviledged portion of the city than an abandoned place as it happens right now. Here is the reason for the competition. Furthermore, the piazza is named after a prominent mid-century italian artist, Giuseppe Viviani. 

The project is the result of an attempt to free centrifugal forces towards the city mimicking the aesthetics of the paintings of Giuseppe Viviani itself. Therefore, by this approach come out irregular shapes for flower beds, sidewalks and outdoor furniture. However, some random architectural elements cut the irregular pattern of the square, temporarily restoring the order like in a classical formal italian garden. A counterpoint between formal and informal garden. 

Two big elements: the Park, with its own language, made by regular and irregular forms, and the Market, a straight object with the function of cutting a part of the design and create a contrast of shape and functions.

ITA - Lo scopo del progetto è quello di dare un senso a un grande vuoto situato in prossimità della foce del fiume Arno, a 15 km dal centro medievale di Pisa. Il sito è utilizzato come parcheggio informale soprattutto durante il periodo estivo. Ma il punto è che un'area con un tale potenziale spaziale dovrebbe essere utilizzata più come una porzione privilegiata della città che come un luogo abbandonato come accade in questo momento. Ecco il motivo della competizione. Inoltre, la piazza prende il nome da un importante artista italiano della metà del secolo, Giuseppe Viviani.

Il progetto è il risultato di un tentativo di liberare forze centrifughe verso la città imitando l'estetica dei dipinti dello stesso Giuseppe Viviani. Pertanto, con questo approccio nascono forme irregolari per aiuole, marciapiedi e mobili da esterno. Tuttavia, alcuni elementi architettonici casuali hanno tagliato il motivo irregolare della piazza, ripristinando temporaneamente l'ordine come in un giardino all'italiana classico. Un contrappunto tra giardino formale e informale.

Due grandi elementi: il Parco, con un suo linguaggio, fatto di forme regolari e irregolari, e il Mercato, un oggetto rettilineo con la funzione di tagliare una parte del disegno e creare un contrasto di forme e funzioni.
