BORGOPIANO / INPUT ENG - Borgopiano is the proposal for the renovation of a portion of the small town Sant'Angelo Le Fratte. The small village was built in spontaneous construction in the first decades of the last century. The idea of carrying out a demolition-and-reconstruction process derives from the awareness of the fact that the village cannot be improved through a simple urban restructuring. Then we proceeded to analyze the requests of the municipality for the evaluation of feasibility. After an initial phase of analysis, the idea of introducing new functions was born. The new village consists of the following parts: theater restaurant hostel new arrangement of the outdoor spaces The complexity of the residential fabric derives from its spontaneous origin and an attempt has been made to maintain a certain degree of this type of structure. This aim was achieved by preserving at least some forms of the building that will be demolished and yet guaranteeing improvement through increased quality of the buildings: more generous dimensions, wider separations, use of cutting-edge systems. --- ITA - Borgopiano è la proposta per la ristrutturazione di una porzione del piccolo comune Sant'Angelo Le Fratte. Il piccolo borgo sorse in edilizia spontanea nei primi decenni del secolo scorso. L'idea di realizzare un processo di demolizione-ricostruzione nasce dalla consapevolezza del fatto che il borgo non può essere valorizzato attraverso una semplice ristrutturazione urbanistica. Poi si è proceduto ad analizzare le richieste del comune per la valutazione di fattibilità. Dopo una prima fase di analisi è nata l'idea di introdurre nuove funzionalità. Il nuovo villaggio è composto dalle seguenti parti: Teatro ristorante ostello nuova disposizione degli spazi esterni La complessità del tessuto residenziale deriva dalla sua origine spontanea e si è cercato di mantenere un certo grado di questo tipo di struttura. Questo obiettivo è stato raggiunto preservando almeno alcune forme dell'edificio che sarà demolito e garantendone però il miglioramento attraverso una maggiore qualità degli edifici: dimensioni più generose, separazioni più ampie, utilizzo di impianti all'avanguardia. PANOPTICON / INPUT ENG - Nemrut Volcano Eyes is an international competition launched by Beebreeders. FROM THE ORGANISER. This competition tasked participants with envisioning a visitor observation platform to be constructed atop Nemrut, a volcano located in eastern Turkey. Positioned at an altitude of 2,800 metres at the southern edge of the dormant volcano, the intent of this new landmark is to provide unobstructed views overlooking the extraordinary caldera and its internal lakes, as well as the immense Lake Van to the east. A caldera is a large depression formed when the ground surface collapses into the emptied magma chamber following a volcanic eruption, becoming a crater. With a total area of 4,800 hectares, and a diameter varying from 7 to 8.5 km, the Nemrut caldera is among the largest in the world. A pair of lakes within the crater - Lakes Ilı and Nemrut - support a microclimate with flora and fauna unique to the region, in part because the water bodies are fed by hot springs and never fully freeze during the winter months. FROM THE ARCHITECTS. The project consists of two main elements: the Path and the (Lookout) Point. The continuosly changing shape of the Nemrut Lake is the source of inspiration for the definition of the geometry and the aesthetics of the Point. The building echoes the half-moon shape of the lake. The Panopticon is located in a privileged spot to enjoy the surrounding panorama. It is positioned on a north-south axis to focus the visitor's attention on the two great valleys. However, due to a game of interwined uprights, people who visit the Point can enjoy a 360° view. The name Panopticon comes from the concept invented by philosopher Jeremy Bentham. Jeremy Bentham's Panopticon is an architecture with a circular shape and a single central watchtower. The Panopticon concept was developed by Bentham in 1785 as a proposal for a prison structure that would allow constant surveillance of prisoners without the need for large numbers of guards. The Panopticon concept is based on the idea that the perception of being observed can exert disciplinary power over prisoners, encouraging them to behave properly. The central watchtower was designed so that the guards could see all the prisoners, but the prisoners would not know whether they were being observed or not. Bentham's Panopticon has been described as "an architecture of surveillance," and his concept has been used to analyze and critique surveillance in modern society. Many have argued that modern technology, such as surveillance cameras and social media, expose us to a form of panoptic surveillance, where we are always under observation. --- ITA - Nemrut Volcano Eyes è una competizione internazionale lanciata da Beebreeders. DALL'ORGANIZZATORE. Questa competizione ha incaricato i partecipanti di immaginare una piattaforma di osservazione dei visitatori da costruire in cima a Nemrut, un vulcano situato nella Turchia orientale. Posizionato a un'altitudine di 2.800 metri sul bordo meridionale del vulcano dormiente, l'intento di questo nuovo punto di riferimento è quello di fornire una vista senza ostacoli sulla straordinaria caldera e sui suoi laghi interni, nonché sull'immenso Lago Van a est. Una caldera è una grande depressione che si forma quando la superficie del terreno collassa nella camera magmatica svuotata a seguito di un'eruzione vulcanica, diventando un cratere. La forma continuamente mutevole del lago Nemrut è la fonte di ispirazione per la definizione della geometria e dell'estetica del punto. L'edificio riprende la forma a mezzaluna del lago. Il Panopticon si trova in una posizione privilegiata per godere del panorama circostante. È posizionato su un asse nord-sud per concentrare l'attenzione del visitatore sulle due grandi valli. Tuttavia, grazie a un gioco di montanti intrecciati, chi visita il Punto può godere di una vista a 360°. Il nome Panopticon deriva dal concetto inventato dal filosofo Jeremy Bentham. Il Panopticon di Jeremy Bentham è un'architettura di forma circolare con un'unica torre di guardia centrale. Il concetto di Panopticon fu sviluppato da Bentham nel 1785 come proposta per una struttura carceraria che permettesse una sorveglianza costante dei prigionieri senza la necessità di un gran numero di guardie. Il concetto di Panopticon si basa sull'idea che la percezione di essere osservati possa esercitare un potere disciplinare sui prigionieri, incoraggiandoli a comportarsi correttamente. La torre di guardia centrale era progettata in modo che le guardie potessero vedere tutti i prigionieri, ma che questi ultimi non sapessero se erano osservati o meno. Il Panopticon di Bentham è stato descritto come "un'architettura della sorveglianza" e il suo concetto è stato utilizzato per analizzare e criticare la sorveglianza nella società moderna. Molti hanno sostenuto che la tecnologia moderna, come le telecamere di sorveglianza e i social media, ci espone a una forma di sorveglianza panottica, in cui siamo sempre sotto osservazione. According to the promoter "they will be people with physical limitations as well as intellectual disabilities who live their own world of experience. Despite the dependence on others, we notice that these people value their own space highly". A mixed timber-steel structure in the middle of nature to improve living conditions of people. --- ITA - L'obiettivo del progetto richiesto è quello di dare spazio ad almeno 50-65 clienti di trattamenti di cura intensiva e di lunga durata. Secondo il promotore "saranno persone con limitazioni fisiche e disabilità intellettive che vivono il proprio mondo di esperienza. Nonostante la dipendenza dagli altri, notiamo che queste persone apprezzano molto il proprio spazio". Una struttura mista legno-acciaio in mezzo alla natura per migliorare le condizioni di vita delle persone.
